The Victorian Junior Country Regions was play in Bendigo at the Bendigo Golf Club and Neangar Park Golf Club over the weekend of 6-7 August. The kids played in some very trying conditions after a deluge or rain fell in Bendigo on the Friday night. However this didn’t dampen their enthusiasm and they were all ready and raring to go on the Saturday morning.
SWGA entered a team of 9 Boys and 3 girls to take on the other 5 regions from country Victoria.
Our team was made up of the follow junior from around our district:
Paige Moorfoot, Tenaya Jennings, Chelsea Cummins, Lachlan Snart, Ben Bowers, Ben Waterson, Max Christie, Ted Sargent, Louis Van Ingen, Baily Cooper, Hamish Craig, Charlie Larson.
The team represented the region outstandingly with many great individual performances. In the boys we had 4 players finish inside the Top 10 with Lachlan Snart and Ted Sargent finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively. All of our girls finished in the top ten with Tenaya Jennings our best place finish at 7th and she was also winner of the girls net event.
The highlight of the weekend was our win in the Country Regions event. SWGA finished on top, 3 shot clear of the home region (North Western). It was an outstanding performance. Our team displayed great attitude both individually and as a team. As soon as any player finished their round they were straight back out on the course encouraging other team mates and giving updates on how others were going.
I would like to thank the parents/helpers who assisted on the weekend. Without this help and commitment weekends like this cannot happen.
It was a pleasure to manage the team this year. Some outstanding golf was played but more importantly outstanding team morale and team unity was displayed by all. Bring on 2023.
