The squad consisted of  Alex Barnes, Ben Bowers, Cam Bowers, Cam Russell, Noah Schammer, Chris Filipowics, Ian Wiseman, Caleb Perry, Hunter Togni and Tom Hyland with myself and Col Gannon as managers.

Our first match was against the host district of Murray -Darling which we won 5.5/1.5, the next day we played 36 holes.  First up against  West Gippsland, we went down 6/1 and then in the afternoon match against Goulburn-Murray we squared our match 3.5/3.5.  On the final day we played Ballarat and went down 4/3.

Our most successful player was Ben Bowers with 3 wins and 1 loss followed by Caleb Perry with 2 wins and 1 loss then Chris Filipowics with 2 wins,1 draw and 1 loss.  With some new blood and youth competing for the first time, it was a good few days that will see us remain in Division 1 for 2026.

Womens Report

This year our team travelled to the sunny and warm weather of Mildura to compete in Division One of Country Week.

Our squad this year was made up of ten players and six caddies with representation from seven clubs across the South Western District being : Emma Pearce ( Geelong/Torquay), Sarah Jenkins, Kathy Naoumidis ( Torquay), Fiona Rogers ( Clifton Springs), Alicia Clark, Jen Edmanson and Meg Pratt ( Portarlington), Paige Moorfoot, Kylie Mytyk, Vicki Carnie ( Curlewis ) and as caddies: Jill Barker, Angela Foott ( Portarlington), Bernadette Bogacki ( Barwon Valley) Kathy Simson ( Torquay), Wendy Tottenham ( Curlewis) & Myself as Team Manager.

With excitement running high we played our first match at the tree-lined fairways of Riverside Golf Club against the home district of Murray-Darling where we came up just shy of a win in a very tight match going down 4/3.  Winners were Kylie, Paige, and Fiona Rogers.

Day two was a very early start and we were off to the picturesque Coomealla Golf Club with two matches scheduled and the possibility of having to play 36 holes.  After a small change to the team  Jen Edmanson came in at number 7 to lead the way against Western District and halved her match.  The team won 4 ½ to 2 ½ .  Winners were Emma, Alicia, Page and Kylie.

Next up was our afternoon match was against Ballarat District, where the wind and the temperature increased making conditions a little more difficult to hit the narrow, dog legged fairways.  The skills of our team shone through taking the points with another strong 4 ½ to 2 ½ win.

Wednesday morning, our last day of play, was at Mildura Golf Club against Goulburn Valley.  We needed a 6/1 win and Murray-Darling to lose their match for us to be a chance to win Division One.  A 4/3 loss against Goulburn Valley saw us finish 3rd overall in our first campaign back in Division One.  Paige Moorfoot was undefeated for her four matches and her caddies collected well in the caddy shack stakes.

The local district of Murray-Darling proved too strong on their home courses and took out the honours.

Personally, it was again an honour to be team manager assisted by Angela Foott.  I’m very proud of the teams’ efforts and to be able to stand beside these women who gave it their all to represent SWGA.  Next year will see us remain in Division One & travel to the Ballarat District, so look out !
