2022 Women's Pennant Wrap Up

Division 1

The final day of Division1 SWGA Womens Pennant 2022 was played at Torquay Golf Club. Torquay were hosting but had a lot riding on the games played today as it could determine if they would win the 2022 Flag.

Congratulations first, to the 2 players in Division 1 who played & won all their games this season: Wendy Tottenham (Curlewis Golf Club), Sue Horne (13th  Beach Golf Club)

Barwon Heads Second Team went into the day knowing they were to be relegated- heading to Division 2 in 2023. But there was great interest in how they would perform as they were playing Curlewis, sitting 2nd on the ladder. Curlewis had a chance of taking the lead but only if they were to win all their games- a feat not done by any team so far in the season. They fought hard but were pipped at the post and Torquay, waiting with their hands tied (as hosts, quietly barracking for Barwon Heads), came through the 2022 victors.

Division 2

Anglesea had performed well all season sitting atop the table. Their big challenge was to come from the Queens Park team sitting annoyingly in second position only 1 point behind and ready to snatch the flag if they were good enough.
With the final hole in the final match of the day deciding the outcome, Anglesea continued their winning ways & took the prize. Congratulations.
Special well done goes to Caroline Dickens in playing & winning all her games for the victors.
Anglesea Golf Club team: Caroline Dickens, Prue Moodie, Janet Coombes, Judy Talbot, Jo Murray, Ro Lockyer, Sally Phillips, Valda Conelly & Ann Larkin.
disciplined performance by the home team who now move into Division 1 for season 2023.

Congratulations to Colac for making the final and a gallant performance but were just outplayed on the day.

Division 3

Barwon Heads were leading the division into the final round & well placed on 10 contest points.
The challenge would need to come from Barwon Valley, 2 points behind with a big win & the leaders to falter.
Undeterred the Barwon Heads team won 3/2 which was enough to seal the deal & take the flag and the accolades. Congratulations to the Red jumpers.
Barwon Heads Golf Club team- Prue Webb, Jenny McMillan, Sandra De Crespigny, Linda Kay, Jane Galbraith & Sarah Hay.

Division 4

A convincing win for Anglesea at Inverleigh to secure the season’s Division 4 pennant flag. They put up a solid performance throughout the season. Congratulations to the Anglesea girls. Watch out Div 3 next year.

The teams was Dee Stewart, Suellan Eskrigge, Jane Cotter, Sue Gell & Valda Connelly

Undefeated throughout the season are Dee Stewart and Shellen Eskrigge

Division 5

The six teams arrived at the lovely Lonsdale Links course to contest the final round of the season with Colac needing to win to take the Pennant Flag and Shield for 2022 season. Their opponents Ocean Grove gave a valiant effort but went down three and a half matches to one and a half. Anglesea who were level on winning games ended their season with a halved match against Lonsdale Links who gained half a point for the draw giving them their first score for the season. Two players in Jenny Lyness from Colac and Louise Crellin from Anglesea achieved the rare distinction of playing out the season without losing a match, 7 from 7, a great effort to them both.

Division 6

Congratulations to The Sands on winning the 2022 Flag.

It came down to the last round of the season against Apollo Bay, who were 1 game ahead. The Sands were too strong on their home course winning 4.5 – .5. All the teams that competed enjoyed the season. It was a 1st for the hybrid system & there will be feedback about this. Congratulations to Kerry Bond The Sands No: 1 player being undefeated for the season.

The Sands : Kerry Bond, Andrea Harvey, Megan Wall, Maggie Juniper, Norma Schultz, Jan Swain, Linda Turner & Lisa Reade.

The final day was played at Queens Park Golf Club with clearing skies after early morning drizzle.
The final round promised to be an exciting finish as Apollo Bay/ Lorne a combined team were 1 point ahead of Clifton Springs & they were to play each other in the final contest.
Congratulations to the blended team in the new blended Division of Otway /Leigh Pennant.
