SWGA Womens 2026 Championship

Anglesea Golf Course was host to the 2026 District Women’s Championships on a beautiful mid- winter Sunday morning. The day started a freezing 3 degrees in clear skies but the golden sunrise promised better.

Bunkers were raked & greens mown, the course was a picture for the players with handicaps of 26 & under. 11 clubs were represented.

The one-day format gave the opportunity for the Championship to be decided by a play off between the lower markers Paige Moorefoot (Curlewis GC) & Sarah Jenkins (Torquay RACV) who both scored gross 84 after 18. With a good crowd following & numerous kangaroos oblivious to the days climax,  it was down the 17thwe went which both players holed 5 footers to halve. The 18th played into a strong breeze.

Paige smashed an impressive 3rd shot to just reach the lower tier of the green which was a long way from the hole to a hole cut on a dirty part of the green. Sarah after chunking her approach then set up a corker of a wedge shot in close proximity of the hole.

With nerves a plenty the past back-to-back champion Paige was unable to drop a tester when needed to continue the match. Sarah walked away shaking her head in surprise & relief as the crowd applauded both players excellent efforts.

Local Chris Creasy on a 24 H/C had the best over all nett to win the Audrey Mckenzie Salver with a fine 72.

Barwon Valley stalwart, Ann Lynch barely in the division scored 95 to win the Div 2 June Gillivour Trophy narrowly from Judy Talbot (Anglesea GC) with 96.

Other Winners:

  • Div 1 best nett: Younden Doma (Anglesea GC) 73.
  • Div 2 best nett: Anne Stokes (Anglesea GC) 77 nett.
  • NTP -3rd hole – Fiona Scott (Colac GC)
    NTP -16th hole – Fiona Jenkins (Torquay RACV)

Thanks to the Anglesea Golf club for hosting this special event.  The assistance from the pro shop, the presentation of the course & the famous catering by the women’s committee makes Anglesea a very enjoyable golfing experience for women of SWGA.
