SWGA Women’s Weekend Pennant 2023
Barwon Valley Takes the Sunday Honours
The final round of the season was held at the picturesque Queens Park GC (not yet KC3 park) in changeable weather conditions. With sunshine, artic blasts, rain & wind to endure the determined, hardy Sunday players were out to do business as usual. Sunday is their golf day so bring it on.
Lonsdale Links & last year’s premiers Barwon Valley were tied on 8 points each and out for glory, it was going to be close.
Lonsdale Links had been top of the table most of the season but it was the new commers to the Sunday comp Curlewis who finished strongly to upset Lonsdale with a convincing 4 ½ - ½ victory on the day, all players nervous, each match tight.
Next out was Barwon Valley who needed to win against 13th Beach to seal the deal. In fine season finishing form again this year it would be Barwon Valley with 4 ½ – ½ who take the shield home again in 2023.
The last match was inconsequential to the revellers in the clubhouse but the Anglesea & Barwon Heads players battled through several more downpours before Barwon Heads took the points with 3 ½- 1 ½.
The 2023 season was played in great spirits & always competitive. Terrific to see so many women & junior girls representing their clubs in the weekend match play competition.
Season wind up day, The Joye Burton Salver will be on Sunday May 28th at Queens Park. Enter on Golfbox.
