SWGA Irish 4 Ball Portarlington Golf Club

Kicking off the 2023 SWGA golf calendar this year was the always popular, Irish day .

It was held at Portarlington Monday 6th with a Shot Gun start, which meant a sit-down lunch together and presentations done while everyone was present.

It was a fabulous day weather wise and enjoyment wise.

The beautiful Portarlington course was a pleasure to play on and everyone enjoyed the chance to catch up after a few torrid, covid ridden years.

The competition was very close with many teams posting the same score, but as we know the cream rises to the top and we saw the team to take out the day was from Ocean Grove consisting of Colleen Cogger, Deb O’Neill , Sue Stevens and Kylie Thomas with a lovely score of 93 points.

Coming second with 91 points was the intrepid travelling team from Apollo Bay, Sandra Gat, VickiHannah, Tina Marmo and Adde Rowarth.

Coming third on a count back was Ocean Grove with 91 points, the team of Sharon Cresswell, Jane Haniver Anita Long and Elizabeth Woods.

Fourth place with 90pts was 13th Beach with Anne Gourlay, Lyn Moore, Julie Pavlitch and Sharon Wallace.

The nearest the pin on the 17th hole was very nearly a hole in one by (Tiger) Anne Gross ,from B.H. and on the 5th Anita Long from Ocean Grove.

Our commitment to the Geelong Community Foundation had a great result with Georgie Sanders organising hampers and a meat tray raffle which raised over $500.00 toward our yearly commitment to this wonderful cause.

So, all in all a great start to what we hope will be an exciting year ahead for SWGA and all the clubs in our wonderful district.
