2022 SWGA Women's Championship

Leading up to the main event of the season district players braced themselves for predicted unpleasant (awful) weather conditions. It was going to be a hard task at both hosting Championship courses.

As the predicted weather systems approached the play days, fields at Lonsdale Links (Open) & Clifton Springs (B grade) reduced.

Any score returned was going to be a good score in the howling winds & continual rain storms.

The Open Champion with a great score of 123 gross was Queens Park’s Fiona Watach.

The Audrey McKenzie Plate was won by Anni Jefferies from Curlewis with a 111 nett.

The Rene Austin Brooch final was played on Monday in equally windy & wet but colder conditions. Winner was Vicki Hannah from Apollo Bay, no stranger to unfriendly weather with a great score of 79 nett off a 18 h/c.

The B Grade Champs at Clifton Springs suffered from the extreme weather on Monday where play had to be cancelled.

On Sunday Leanne Jennings from Barwon Valley had best score of 105 gross to win B Grade Champs &the June Gullivour Trophy. Nett winner from Portarlington was Yvette Pollock with nett 83.

There were insufficient entries in C Grade to conduct the event.

Well done to all competing players & congratulations to the winners.

SWGA would like to thank Lonsdale Links & Clifton Springs administration, golf shop, committee & ground staff for their assistance in conducting this important event for women players of our district.
