It was happy days at sundrenched Curlewis Golf Club today for the SWGA Women ‘s Sunday Pennant players competing in the Joye Buton Salver.
15 teams representing 6 of the Sunday clubs played in the annual 4BBB Stableford event.
As always, the Sunday players were enjoying the opportunity to compete at a different course with their team mates whilst striving to take hold of the Silverware which has been won by Queens Park on the previous 3 occasions.
Tackling the trophy from Queens Park proved too difficult a task, with the team of Virginia Lord & Valerie Sercombe carding a stand out 49 points from runners up on a CB, Shari Wilson & Bernadette Korth (Barwon Valley) on 45 points.
NTP (2nd shot) on the 13th: winner Biddy Tuohey (Anglesea) 37cm.

2024 JEAN RUSSELL SALVER WINNERS - Louise Watach & Fiona Rogers - Click here for full results
Clifton Springs gave its best today for the Jean Russell Salver with the greens humbling the best players in the district. Scores on the day showed that the damp weather and heavey air made it very challenging however; the cream rose to the top with the local mother and daughter combination winnning the coveted Salver. Thanks to the team at Clifton Springs who provided excellent support in the Proshop and Clubhouse making this event a breeze to run.
This trophy began in 1979 when it was decided that the SWDGA Championship event was becoming too crowded to limit just to pennant players; so the Executive decided to have the second day Canadian Foursomes and to open the Championship to all silver division players and club champions. In 1980 the executive decided to name the Canadian Foursomes the Jean Russell Salver and in 1989 it was made the pennant presentation day and separated from the Championship. The Jean Russell Salver was named for Mrs Russell, as her contribution to the SWDGA was quite considerable.
Mrs. Russell was Torquay delegate for several years; President of SWDGA in 1968 and became Secretary in 1970 a position she held until 1984; was Treasurer in 1985 and in 1986 Mrs. Russell was named the 2nd Life Member of the SWDLGA an honour which thrilled her greatly. Mrs. Russell died in 2000.
