Exciting News for Beeac Golf Club
Following a grant received from SWGA Grant Program in December 2023 I am pleased to present a report received from Beeac GC on the development and progress of their project to refurbishment of the greens and directional signage for the course.
The grant was conditional on Beeac GC seeking advice from an agronomist Luke Trezise regarding best actions to refurbish the greens
The advice was to prioritise dethatching and fertilizing which occurred in February 2024 using a loaned de-thatcher and many volunteer hands.
More advice was sought recently from Peter Frewin, Golf Australia which was to continue with de-thatching to freshen and thicken cover of couch and to take care of watering as too much creates moss and other grasses.
A grant was received from Barwon Water in June 2024 to install automated sprinklers on 8 of 11 greens. 3 greens already had sprinklers. Sprinklers were installed October 2024 by club members.
The next phase is in February 2025 to undertake coring of all greens as proposed in the grant application and then finalise the plans for directional signage based on the amount of funding remaining from SWGA grant.
This has been an amazing club effort in use of volunteers and generous donation of time from professionals.
I would encourage all golfers within the district to support Beeac in their events throughout the year. Their Open is held in June and Joyce Simpkin Bowl is held in November.
Or take a drive and play a few holes and have a look at their progress.
