2024 Men's District Championship
The 2024 men’s District Championships were held over 36 holes over the past two Sundays. There was a strong field of players participating, with over 20 players in the field with handicaps of 1 or less.
The 1st Round was played at Colac Golf Club and was played in cool conditions with the greens being found by many players to be a challenge.
Stewart Drayton took a strong 1st Round lead with an excellent 2 under 69. This gave him a three-shot lead over Colac local Nick Welsh and four shots over a group of three, in Ben Bowers, Zachary Boothroyd and Matthew O’Dowd.
Conditions on the Creek Course at 13th Beach early in the 2nd round were calm and fairly mild, with the wind picking up slightly during the round. After 9 holes it seemed to have generally come down to two players. Ben Bowers had played an outstanding front nine and had made up the 4 shot deficit he had after round 1 and a tight finish between Ben and Stewart Drayton looked on the cards. After 14 holes Stewart had wrested the lead back by a shot but over the next 4 holes Ben was too strong and shot a magnificent 5 under 67 to win the title for the first time (and probably not the last)
The over 55 Seniors Gross was taken out by Stephen McNamara after two solid rounds in the mid 70’s, and B Grade Gross was won by Colac local Aaron Togni.
Finally in the net events, in B Grade Brent Kahle won on a countback over Andrew Hood and in A Grade Stephen McNamara won by a shot over TJ Leigh."
